Fun Friday Facts
Happy Friday, friends! I just finished my first week on the new job at the gym and am celebrating with a blog post. I hope you've had a great week and have solid plans (or a lack thereof as we sometimes need) coming up this weekend. It's my father-in-law's birthday tomorrow (Happy Birthday, Maurice!), so we're going skiing all day and then out to dinner with my in-laws. Should be fun!
I recently saw this Q & A from Janetha (she created it!) and decided it was perfect for a Friday post. I hope you enjoy a few fun facts and feel free to use it as well!
A is for age: 26 (Mikey always says he "robbed the cradle" when he married me.)
B is for breakfast today: Bob's Red Mill 5 grain oatmeal with 2 egg whites, (frozen) blueberries, cinnamon, and a spoonful of almond butter.
C is for currently craving: cereal and milk (of the almond variety)... and a GOOD, wood-fired pizza from a fun place with neat atmosphere.
D is for dinner tonight: Unknown. I'm a terrible meal planner and for sure haven't thought those few hours ahead in advance.
E is for favorite type of exercise: Well, I LOVE to run, climb, and ski, but in the gym? It's burpees. I love 'em (and hate 'em with an almost equal passion)! Here's a video and burpee challenge from me to you!
F is for an irrational fear: I have something called "F.O.M.O" that I'm working on, which stands for "fear of missing out." If I'm hanging out with a group of people and they all stay up late, I feel like I have to as well, even if I'm exhausted. I hate to miss group events because I feel like I'm missing out on memories. I'm learning to be myself and let certain things go and not worry about "missing out" - that's no way to live.
G is for gross food: Olives. I know I'm in the minority but I just don't like them.
H is for hometown: Walnut Creek, California, baby! - outside San Francisco. Below is Mt. Diablo, a familiar spot and landmark in Walnut Creek.
I is for something important: Camp, specifically Christian camps like Young Life and YD Adventures, has significantly shaped who I am. Experiencing that type of community has grown me, expanded my horizons and both "soft" and "hard" skills (people and technical), and brought people into my life who have impacted my heart for Christ and who I am today. It's still because of James Thomsen that I see details (I am NOT a detail-oriented person but he taught me that picking up small piece of trash around the property is glorifying to God and makes a better experience for campers). LOVE it.
J is for current favorite jam: Probably Kelly Clarkson's new song (is it called "Stronger?")...great one!
K is for kids: None yet, and I'm honestly unsure if I want them... Mikey does, but later, and I assume I do, right now I'm enjoying our life right where God has us.
L is for current location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada: home of the Calgary Stampede!
M is for the most recent way you spent money: On a quick dinner last night out at a sushi restaurant on the way out of work and into an evening of volunteering.
N is for something you need: To be completely honest, nothing, really. I am blessed with abundantly more than I need. But if this was changed to a want-need, I'd say a pedicure. I'll, um, spare you a photo.
O is for occupation: Personal Trainer, both in-home and at a gym.
P is for pet peeve: When the radio is on in the car loud enough to know it's on but not loud enough to actually hear it. I hate that!
Q is for a quote: "The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that you may have life to the full!" - Jesus, John 10:10
R is for random fact about you: I have an incredible family. Although the tradition has since ceased, I grew up spending every New Year's Eve with my extended family where we would hold the annual "New Year's Eve Extravaganza." Cousins, aunts, uncles and immediate family - we'd all get together and start New Year's Eve off with songs, dancing, and family skits. Then came the food! Laughter, good food, and fellowship filled the small rooms we met in. The rest of the night would be spent in reflection on the year past and we would take time to pray about the year ahead before playing cards and watching the ball drop. What great memories. There was also dancing - in front of others - and it was embarrassing! I was terrified to dance in front of others when I was little. I've learned to cut loose a little (and one glass of wine and good friends around always helps).
S is for favorite healthy snack: Lately, it's either a grapefruit (SO juicy!) or a handful of almonds with some dried fruit (prunes, dates, dried apples, whatever we have on hand).
T is for favorite treat: Black & red licorice bites from Red Vine. They don't sell the kind I like in Canada
U is for something that makes you unique: I can play the bagpipes! My dad's from Scotland and he, my brother, and I all took lessons when we were younger.
Joey, a camp friend helping me play the pipes after a hike w/the campers!
V is for favorite vegetable: Ohh...that's a tough one. Right now I'd say kale or sweet potatoes.
W is for today’s workout: A run! I took Sunday and Monday totally off, worked out in the gym Tuesday and Wednesday, and went for an easy run today.
X is for X-rays you’ve had: Maybe one? I got my knee operated on while I was in university (a minor surgery - bone scraping on some cartilage build up from Osgood-Schlatter disease).
Y is for yesterday’s highlight: My 10 mile run. It's been a while since I've had a good run, so to have one in super windy conditions that was relatively speedy and strong was great!
Z is for your time zone: Mountain Standard, baby! I do miss being in the Pacific Coast zone because I love California, but there's something to be said for the Rocky Mountains.
A - Z, that's me! Pick a letter that interests you above and tell me a little something about yourself in the comments! On that note, have a great weekend and I'll be back Monday with a video and review of my new possibly favorite piece of running gear...
Live well & be well, friends,
