Happy Friday, friends!

It's a beautiful day in Calgary and is already shaping up to be as warm as was forecasted. This makes me happy and I'm hoping to get out on a run soon to take advantage of the warmth.

My day started with an early morning to train one of my favorite husband and wife client teams. Partner workouts are so much fun! Great to train for me and also sure nice to train with someone wen you're the one doing the work. I was super tired afterward (don't think I slept the best the night before) but took advantage of being out already and hit up the grocery store for a few staples (almond butter, eggs, peppers, apples) and a few fun treats for a movie night we're hosting with young adult cancer survivors. Should be a blast! Tomorrow I'm helping lead a snowshoe hike with a group of survivors after training my favorite sister team and am looking forward to the day!

Once I returned home I flipped my computer on while whipping up a batch of a friendly FitFluential friend Jess' No Bake PB Protein Bars and watched this week's recipe of The Biggest Loser. While there are pros and cons and many different opinions about this show, the bottom line to me is that people are changing their lives for the better and I LOVE that. I find it so motivating and am always reminded of how I love what I do as a trainer when I watch this show. Plus - Bob and Dolvett? Come on now. ;)

But in all seriousness, each week in this season has a different excuse about why we DON'T work out. This week's excuse was "I don't want to get out of my comfort zone." I thought the theme of this week was awesome - how hard is it to get out of our comfort zones? I was complaining about something last night to Mikey and said in a whiny voice, "Mikey! I don't want to get out of my comfort zone!" concerning something new coming up in life. I said it tongue in cheek knowing that getting out of my comfort zone has continually been one of the best ways I've grown. Whether it's learning to be a better guide by doing on trips and putting myself in rapids to help others, going to different people's homes whom I didn't know when we moved to Calgary to make friends, or visiting my best friend Anna in Morocco solo after never traveling alone, getting uncomfortable always leads to growth.

Another great night hosted by our friends Craig & Mandi!

I look up to my friend - in more ways than one. ;)

The same is certainly true with our fitness. Are you someone who likes to stay in the comfortable realm of walking into a gym, head down, hopping on your cardio machine of choice and then ducking back out? Do you stick to the machines you know or do the same body weight exercises in the same circuit before calling it a day? It's certainly better than NOT going to the gym, but what are you missing out on by not trying something else? There's a possibility to gain more friends by smiling at others and saying hi to the regulars you always make eye contact with anyway. You could learn something new by asking a trainer a few questions about what to do with a bosu ball. You could try a class and find a whole new workout love!

I remember being pretty terrified of trying a spin class when I first worked at a gym and had access to those classes. I masked it by telling myself I'm simply not a cyclist; I'm a runner. But the truth was that I was nervous to try something so out of my element. I slipped into a class one morning when a client cancelled and looked around to see what everyone else was doing - adjusting knobs and seats and chatting with friends on nearby bikes.

And you know what? I LOVED the class! It was challenging and made my heart rate soar; it was something different for my body and the accomplishment  was incredible for me. Although I was uncomfortable, the first step through the door really was the hardest part.

Jump ropes and kettle bells make you uncomfortable? Good! Pick them up & go!

What are the doors that are uncomfortable for you to walk through right now? For me it's less in the fitness-realm and more in the work realm (thanks for your comments on yesterday's post!). I'll give more details on Monday, but I can say I got a new job yesterday! ...And although it's in an area of life I'm comfortable with, there are elements that will put me out of my comfort zone, like taking public transit to work (yes, and I'm embarrassed to say that's uncomfortable for me - I just always drive!); meeting new people and being the new person; feeling less confident in a new work environment. But I KNOW it will work out for my benefit and cause me to grow in my skills, my passions, my education and my character.

Have a great weekend and if you get the opportunity to try something new or say yes to something different, give it a shot! Get out of that comfort zone and ask yourself, "What's really the worst that could happen?!" Oh - and if you're looking for a great workout, remember to give those 100 burpees a shot OR try the Fat Terminator workout I did from FitMiss yesterday - it's a killer. :D

Live well & be well this weekend, guys!

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and participating in some pretty intense business negotiations this month. I'm scared to death! But I have to say here that I'm super-proud of my husband who broke out of his comfort zone this week and agreed to train with me for our mud run. He rocks!

Wow...sounds exciting, Bex! And I love that your husband is joining you in training and the mud run - that would be out of my husband's comfort zone too. :D

A new job - how exciting!!! Starting something new is always scary, but it's usually good for us. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and committing to memorizing the book of James (scary, but cool!). Did you guys watch the videos that went along with the Beth Moore study? When she quoted the book, it was so inspiring, and I'm terrible with memorization. I decided there would never be a "good" time to do it and I have a friend who is also memorizing the book - so I stepped WAY out and decided to do it. =)

Always scary to start a new job, yes! I'm nervous but excited. :) And guess what? I've committed to memorizing James too! How far along are you? We could keep each other accountable! :D

SNOWSHOEING!! (did I spell that right?) Travis and I used to go all the time in Colorado! So much fun and a GREAT workout! We'd go for hours and hours with no particular destination. Miss that. Good luck tomorrow!

I'm all about getting out of my comfort zone. CrossFit is doing that for me big time. They have been some of the BEST workouts I've had recently though. Congrats on the new job!
